The Uruguayan team has not reached the knockout stage for the first time in 20 years after participating in the tournament. The last time they were eliminated in the group stage was in 2002. In 2006, he could not even qualify for the World Cup. After that in 2010, he was at the fourth position. In 2014, it was eliminated in the pre-quarterfinals and reached the quarterfinals in 2018.

Uruguay’s team, playing the 14th World Cup, has been out of the group stage for the fourth time. Earlier in 1962, 1974 and 2002, Uruguay could not reach the knockouts. With one win, one draw and one draw, Uruguay finished third in Group H with four points. This is Uruguay’s second consecutive win over Ghana in the World Cup. Earlier in 2010, in the quarter-final match, they were defeated 4–2 in the penalty shootout.

Ghana missed the match with penalty
If Ghana’s team had won the match played at Al Zainab Stadium, it would have reached the knockout stage by finishing second with six points. Uruguayan player Darwin Nunez was shown a yellow card for making a mistake. War awarded Ghana a penalty in the 19th minute. Andre Ayew’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Rochet. If Ghana had not missed this penalty, they would have had an opportunity to increase. After this, Arasketa scored goals in the 26th and 32nd minutes to give victory to Uruguay.

Arrasketa’s charisma did not work
Giorgio de Arrasketa has become the third player for his country to score two goals in the first half of the World Cup. Prior to this, Peregrino Anselmo scored two goals in the first half against Yugoslavia in 1930 and Oscar Miguez against Bolivia in 1950. Coincidentally, both times Uruguay became the champion. However, Arrasketa’s charisma of scoring two goals in the first half itself did not work for his team this time.

Uruguay scored the second goal of the match to end Ghana’s hopes of a comeback. This goal was also scored by Giorgio de Arrasketa. He scored the second goal for the team in the 32nd minute. Proceed to Darwin Nunez over Pellistri Pass. He extended the ball towards Suarez. Suarez’s pass was scored by Giorgio de Arrascheta.
