Aaron Finch retired Australia’s T20 captain Aaron Finch retired from international cricket on Tuesday. Finch retired from ODIs last year. Now he has taken retirement from T20 as well. Finch was part of Australia’s 2021 T20 World Cup-winning team. Finch is also Australia’s highest run scorer in T20.
Finch will continue to play BBL(Aaron Finch retired)
Australia’s most successful captain in the history of T20I cricket, Finch will continue to play for the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL). The year 2022 was not good for Finch as captain. Host Australia failed to make it to the knockout stage in the T20 World Cup. Due to this, his captaincy also came under the scanner.
Won’t play in the 2024 World Cup so retired now – Finch
In the statement released for retirement, Finch said – I think I will not be able to play the 2024 T20 World Cup. So now is the right time to take retirement. I should give time to the management to build the team for the next T20 World Cup and set the new captain. It was great to captain for 12 years and play with the best players in the world.
Earned name in T20 cricket
Finch made records through T20 cricket. Finch became Australia’s longest-serving captain. He was given the T20 captaincy in 2013. Finch captained Australia in 76 matches. Finch played the most matches as captain in international cricket. Finch is also Australia’s highest T20 International run scorer with 3120 runs(Aaron Finch retired).

Finch made his debut for Australia in 2011 in the ODI match against England. Finch played a total of 146 ODIs and scored 5406 runs. In T20, he played 103 matches and scored 3120 runs. Finch’s bat scored 19 centuries in his international career. Finch played his last international match on 31 October 2022 against Ireland. In this, he played a half-century inning of 63 runs(Aaron Finch retired).
