India A vs Bangladesh A: Vaibhav Suryavanshi looked visibly frustrated and heartbroken as he watched India A’s downfall from the sidelines in the Rising Stars Cup semifinal.
India A crashed out of the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 after a tense and dramatic semifinal against Bangladesh A. Chasing 195 in 20 overs, India A somehow dragged the match into a Super Over after a chaotic final-ball scramble where they ran three runs in almost comical fashion.

Cameras repeatedly showed a disappointed Suryavanshi observing the tense finish from the dugout, clearly upset with the way the innings unfolded.
The controversy escalated in the Super Over, where the 14-year-old batting prodigy — known for his explosive batting and highest strike rate in the tournament — was surprisingly not sent in to face even a single ball.

Instead, India A lost both wickets in the first two deliveries of the Super Over, with Jitesh Sharma and Ashutosh Sharma falling in quick succession to Bangladesh’s Ripon Mondol. Watching the collapse helplessly, Suryavanshi appeared shattered by the decision and the result.

Earlier in the chase, India A required just 31 runs off the last three overs with wickets still in hand. However, excellent death bowling from Bangladesh and poor finishing by the Indian middle and lower order turned the game on its head.

Suryavanshi had been the standout batter for India in the tournament, leading the run charts with 239 runs and smashing 22 sixes across four innings. He also gave India a blazing start in the semifinal with a quick 38 off 15 balls before falling early. Given his power-hitting ability, fans questioned why he wasn’t trusted in the Super Over.
Jitesh Sharma’s ‘power hitters for old ball’ explanation
After the match, captain Jitesh Sharma defended the decision, saying that he and the team management opted for players they believed could “hit sixes at will” in the Super Over — naming himself, Ramandeep Singh, and Ashutosh Sharma. His explanation cited the old ball, spread field, and Mondol’s yorker accuracy as factors.

However, the disastrous outcome placed the selection under heavy scrutiny.

With disappointing losses to both Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh A, this tournament will be remembered as a missed opportunity for many Indian players to push their case for senior-team selection. For Suryavanshi, though, this could still be just the beginning of a long and promising journey in Indian cricket.
