Pawan Sehrawat: Historic bidding was seen in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) auction. On Monday, Indian Kabaddi team captain Pawan Kumar Seharwat was bought by Telugu Titans for Rs 2.605 crore. With this, Pawan became the most expensive player in PKL history. He also became the most expensive player in the last auction, when Tamil Thalaivas bought him for Rs 2.26 crore.

Iran’s Mohammadreza Shadloo became the most expensive foreign player on the first day of the auction. Puneri Paltan bought him for Rs 2.35 crore and made him the most expensive player in the history of the league. But then Pawan’s name came up and the tag of most expensive player shifted from Shadaloo to Pawan.

A total of 23 players were sold on Monday. The auction will resume on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. on the second and last day. PKL is a franchise tournament of Kabaddi held every year in India, which will start on December 2 this year.

23 players sold, 20 of them Indians

A mini-auction was held at the Jio Convention Center in Mumbai for PKL Season 10. All the teams are filling the remaining spots in their squads. More than 500 players from 13 countries including India got a place in the auction. But only 23 players were sold on the first day of the auction. Of these, 3 were from Iran and 20 were from India.

3 players from Iran were bought in the auction, out of which 2 got a price of more than Rs 1.5 crore. All-rounder Mohammadreza Shadlu was bought by Puneri Paltan for Rs 2.35 crore. He became the most expensive foreign player in PKL history. Meanwhile, Iran national team captain and defender Fazal Atrachali was bought by Gujarat Giants for Rs 1.60 crore.

The third player of Iran to be sold in the auction was all-rounder Mohammad Nabibakhsh, who was also bought by Gujarat Giants. But he got a price of Rs 22 lakh.

Mohammadreza Shadlu played for Patna Pirates last season. This time he will be seen playing for Puneri Paltan. He was a part of Iran’s silver medalist-team in the Asian Games.

3 out of 20 Indians became millionaires

20 Indian players were bought in the auction. Of these, 3 became millionaires. Raider Siddharth Desai was bought by Haryana Steelers for Rs 1 crore. Pawan Sehrawat became a part of Telugu Titans for Rs 2.605 crore. Whereas Bengal Warriors bought the team’s star raider Maninder Singh with a bid of Rs 2.12 crore.

Apart from these three, teams bid Rs 50 to 99 lakh for 8 players. Whereas the price of the remaining 9 players was between Rs 9 to 49 lakh.

Gujarat bought a maximum 5 players

10 teams bought 23 players. Jaipur Pink Panthers and Tamil Thalaivas did not buy a single player. Two-time runner-up Gujarat Giants bought the maximum number of 5 players. The Bengal Warriors team bought 4 players. Rs 2.12 crores were spent on Maninder Singh, while the remaining 3 players were bought within Rs 50 lakhs(Pawan Sehrawat).

Daband Delhi and U Mumba bought 3 players each. While Haryana Steelers and Bengaluru Bulls included 2 players each in their team. Patna Pirates, Telugu Titans, UP Yoddhas, and Puneri Paltan bought one player each.

Teams can spend Rs 5 crore in the auction. Last year this amount was Rs 4.4 crore.
The base prices of players were kept in 4 categories. These include base prices of 9 lakh, 13 lakh, 20 lakh and 30 lakh.

More than 500 players were included in the auction.

The 12 franchise teams can include a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25 players in their squad.

This time there was a historic bidding in Pro Kabaddi and 3 players got a price of more than Rs 2 crore. Before this, this had happened only once last year. When Pawan Kumar Seharwat was bought by Tamil Thalaivas for Rs 2.26 crore. However, he was out of the entire season after getting injured in the very first match.

The season will start on December 2

The 10th season of PKL will start on December 2 this year. Its 9 seasons have been played so far. Patna Pirates is the most successful team, they have won the title 3 times. Jaipur Pink Panther are the defending champions, having also won their first title of the season.

Apart from these, U Mumba, Bengal Warriors, Bengaluru Bulls, and Daband Delhi teams have become champions once each. Whereas Telugu Titans, Tamil Thalaivas, Gujarat Giants, Haryana Steelers, UP Yodhas, and Puneri Paltan teams could not win the title even once.

PKL Started in 2014

The first season of Pro Kabaddi League was played in the year 2014. Then Jaipur Pink Panthers won the title by defeating U Mumba. Till the fourth season in 2017(Pawan Sehrawat), there were 8 teams in PKL. But from the fifth season in 2018, 12 teams started participating in PKL. This time only 12 teams will participate in the season.
